To be honest with you, I have no idea. It started as a weekend coding project, and I thought it was entertaining enough to share.
Really it's just an aggregator of space-related news, presented in the only way I think space-related news should be presented: in a slow crawl across a starry background while epic orchestral music plays.
(If you don't already know, check it out with sound on. If you're on mobile, go landscape.)
NOPE! Not even a little. Sit back and let the space news wash over you on its own time. But if your browser offers a reader view, you can use that to view a static, scrollable version of the site, like most (boring) websites. It's just not nearly as fun.
Please do follow the links to the reports, both to get the full story and to support the publications and reporters working to produce them.
I'm Lee Ferran (@leeferran on Twitter), a longtime reporter and editor, current managing editor over at Breaking Defense, formerly of ABC News, who dabbles in random coding projects. Before this I created the Pentagon Spending Bot (@BotPentagon), which keeps an eye on U.S. Defense Department contract awards -- to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars daily. And a while back I started a security and foreign affairs news site, Code and Dagger (@codeanddagger). Check 'em all out.
I can always use your help in keeping things running. If you like Galaxy Wire, or any of the other stuff, consider chipping in. Easiest way is to pledge a small amount at Code and Dagger's Patreon page. Thanks very much for your support.

Galaxy Wire is a very simple site that does not itself collect user information and has disabled analytics by Google Firebase for the site. This policy is subject to change. Click here to check out Firebase's privacy policy, should it become relevant.

The music on the main page and this page are selections from, appropriately, Antonin Dvorak's The Symphony No. 9 in E minor, "From the New World," as performed by the DuPage Symphony Orchestra and hosted online by the Petrucci Music Library. No alterations have been made to the music.
To make the site, I followed a tutorial on crawl CSS animation by Geoff Graham on CSS-Tricks.com and then added a couple bells and whistles.
Galaxy Wire is a North 34, LLC production. Web hosting by Google Firebase.
